Plein-Air Painting Workshop
Level: Beginner to Advanced
Dates: Saturday, October 10 and Sunday October 11, 2009
Times: 1 pm to 5 pm
Course Description: Enjoy the outdoors while painting in Piedmont Park, an Atlanta landmark. Ever wanted to learn how to plein-air paint? Or just want some direction and motivation on-site? This is the workshop for you!
In this intensive course, you will learn how to use oil or acrylic quickly and directly by building up layers for fresh, spontaneous colors. Techniques learned can also be used to create quick daily paintings. Some demonstrations, but most of the course will be individual consultation and direction. Workshop will be small, 10 students or less.
Come and enjoy the great outdoors while learning direct painting, and go home with your own plein-air masterpiece!
Workshop fee: $100

Supplies: You may purchase your own supplies using the Supply List below or purchase on of the Optional Supply Packages.
The Supply Packages include 8 colors of 37ml oil paints, 3 stretched canvas', wooden palette, 6 brushes, 1 palette knife, oil medium and cleaning towels. You will need to bring a supply stand for your palette and bring or reserve an easel.
Supply List:
  1. Mobile easel. I suggest a stand-up easel. If you do not have one, I have 2 extra easels, register early to reserve one!
  2. Small supply stand for your palette (TV tray works great)
  3. Suggested* colors for oil or acrylic: Cadmium Red Light or Med., Cadmium Yellow Light or Hansa Yellow, Sap Green, Cerulean or Cobalt Blue, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre, any White, any Black
    * You may substitute or bring additional colors.
  4. 2 or 3 surfaces: canvas, masonite, or canvas pad. You may bring any size, however I recommend 8 to 36 in. If canvas pad, use pad backing or bring hard surface for support.
  5. Wooden or disposable palette (no glass please)
  6. Brushes (2-3 sizes, 2 of each size) and palette knife
  7. Water or oil medium in brush-accessible and re-sealable jar/s. I recommend for oil paints using a mixture of 2/3 oil and 1/3 odorless mineral spirits.
  8. Towels, natural fiber rags, or paper towels to clean brushes
